With a variety of handy tools and great services available, it’s never been easier to travel around by public transport. New technology means you don’t have to wait around at bus stops, many buses and trains now have WiFi on board, cashless ticket options and more!
Cathedral Meadows is in a great location for those wanting to undertake trips by public transport. In addition to a handy and frequent bus service, various train stations can be accessed by bus. This makes it easy and convenient to leave the car at home, whether travelling locally or further afield.
Both Sunderland and Durham train stations can be reached by the local bus service. From either station, you’ll find frequent connections to Newcastle, Edinburgh, Liverpool and London – along with a range of local and regional destinations.
Key Local Bus Services
Your nearest bus stops are located on either Station Road, Lambton View or School Avenue, just a short walk from your home. The service available from these stops is detailed below, with a link to the timetable and further information:
20/20A – Sunderland Interchange – Durham Bus Station
The frequent 20/20A bus service, operated by Go North East, serves West Rainton and runs directly passed Cathedral Meadows. Services run every 15 minutes, Monday to Saturday, with services every 30 minutes on Sundays.
Using the 20/20A a bus journey to Houghton le Spring will take just 15 minutes, with a journey to Durham taking 20 minutes, and a journey to Sunderland taking 40 minutes.

Paying for your Journey
Catching the bus or train no longer has to mean fumbling around for change before hopping on to pay the driver or conductor in a rush! There are so many different ways to pay for your journey now that you may feel a little spoilt for choice!
It’s also important to check that you aren’t paying too much. Whilst paying for single or return tickets is OK for occasional or one off journeys, those who travel more frequently by bus and/or rail can save some significant cash by choosing monthly or annual passes.
